Griffon Marine is set to create new skilled jobs and further economic growth across the Portsmouth region following its recent contract awards under the Ministry of Defence’s Boats In Service Support 26 (BISS 26) programme.
Mark Downer, CEO of Griffon Marine, said:
“This latest phase of growth reflects the strength of our business and the exceptional capability of our people. As we approach one year since re-branding as Griffon Marine, we are proud of what has been achieved—from major contract wins and award recognition to the successful delivery of complex defence programmes.
“These new contracts not only reinforce our long-standing relationship with the Ministry of Defence, but also enable us to continue investing in jobs, skills and facilities in Portsmouth. We are committed to supporting the local economy while delivering world-class marine engineering and support services.”
The new contracts will see the company expand its support, engineering and project delivery teams, reinforcing Portsmouth’s position as a centre of excellence for marine engineering and defence manufacturing. The investment builds on a strong pipeline of work and continued demand for highly skilled roles across engineering, fabrication and systems integration.
The announcement comes as Griffon Marine approaches the first anniversary of its rebrand, marking what has been a highly successful twelve months for the business. Over the past year, the company has secured major new contracts, delivered complex defence programmes and achieved multiple industry award wins, alongside continued investment in its people and facilities.
Building on this momentum, the BISS 26 contracts are expected to sustain and grow high-value employment opportunities in the region, supporting both experienced professionals and early-career talent through apprenticeships and training pathways.
Amanda Martin, MP for Paulsgrove, commented: “This is fantastic news for Portsmouth and for Paulsgrove in particular. Griffon Marine’s continued success demonstrates the strength of our local workforce and the vital role our city plays in supporting the UK’s defence capabilities.
These new contracts will create high-quality skilled jobs, as well as opening up valuable opportunities for apprenticeships and training for local people. I’m especially pleased to see continued investment in skills and careers that will benefit the next generation.
I look forward to seeing Griffon Marine build on this momentum and continue to contribute to our local community.”
Darren Paffey, MP for Southampton Itchen, visited Griffon Marine Shipyard on 27 March 2026, and said: “This is exactly the kind of investment our maritime sector needs, and I am delighted to see the Government fully backing Southampton-based Griffon Marine with these significant Ministry of Defence contracts. It shows confidence in British shipbuilding, British engineering and our skilled workforce here in the Solent. These contracts will bring an immediate boost for jobs, apprenticeships and opportunities across Southampton and the wider Solent region.”
Griffon Marine continues to play a key role in supporting the UK’s defence capabilities while contributing to the long-term growth of the regional economy, with Portsmouth firmly established as a hub for advanced marine engineering and innovation.
